The word 'Christian' simply means 'follower of Jesus Christ'.
And we believe that Jesus is the good news you've been waiting to hear about TODAY because...
We believe that God has given the greatest gift to all mankind, Jesus, because of His great love.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Because God is perfect (also called 'holy') and to be in His presence, we should be holy also. But because of sin, or the desire to want to control our own lives, we aren’t holy like He is. Actually, we break his laws all the time. That means there is a separation between us and Him.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‘Gospel’ means good news and the good news is that just like a criminal that has to pay a debt for breaking the law, Jesus paid our debt so that we can live with God forever.
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
That’s why it is called good news and why it is the greatest gift ever? We don’t have to do anything to earn this gift, because that wouldn’t make it a gift any more. He wants us to receive this gift by believing Him and asking Him to live our lives in total trust of His goodness and power.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
“Then he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ And they said, ‘believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
(All of the above quotes are straight from the bible).
We invite you to make the decision to trust that Jesus loves you today. You are NOT helpless, worthless or unloveable- you are extremely precious to God. So much so that he sent Jesus, his son, to pay the price for us to be able to go to heaven and not hell.
You can choose to become a follower of Jesus (a Christian) anywhere and anytime- simply pray (talk to God) and ask Him to forgive you of all the things you've done wrong and tell Him that you want to follow Him. We then turn away from doing the wrong things in life and actively try to live in a way that makes Him proud. It's not enough to simply say words, but we have to change our life to show that we mean it- and God will help us to do that, because He wants us to succeed and not fail!
